Airstream Partners With Pininfarina to Develop Future Luxury RV Designs

Airstream and Italian design house Pininfarina announced a design partnership focused on shaping the future of Airstream as the recreational vehicle manufacturer approaches its 100th anniversary in 2031.

According to a press release, Airstream President and CEO Bob Wheeler and Pininfarina CEO Paolo Dellachà announced the collaboration Aug. 15 during the Pininfarina Duetto Day Cocktail Reception at Osteria al Mare during Monterey Car Week.

The partnership will explore how Airstream’s established design language can be translated into a new luxury experience while maintaining the brand’s identity and design approach, according to the companies.

The two companies each have 95-year histories and said the partnership reflects shared commitments to innovation, timeless design and craftsmanship. Wheeler and Dellachà addressed media, industry leaders and guests during the reception.

The collaboration comes as Airstream prepares for its centennial in 2031. The partnership is intended to begin a new chapter for the RV manufacturer while preserving elements associated with Airstream’s identity, including craftsmanship, curiosity and exploration.

Airstream manufactures riveted aluminum travel trailers and is based in Jackson Center, Ohio. Its product portfolio also includes touring coaches.

Pininfarina, founded in 1930 and headquartered in Italy, operates in the United States, China and Germany. The company has expanded from automotive styling into industrial, product and experience design, architecture, nautical applications and mobility beyond automotive.

According to the company, Pininfarina has designed more than 1,300 automotive and mobility projects and more than 650 product and architecture projects over more than nine decades.

It has received more than 70 international design awards during the past 10 years.
