2025 Camping Outlook: Pitchup.com Identifies Major Trends in Outdoor Travel

Pitchup.com, a company in outdoor accommodation bookings with a network of 6,000 campgrounds across 70 countries, has released its annual report forecasting key trends for 2025. Drawing on booking data and customer reviews, the report reveals a shift in the outdoor travel landscape, including the rise of farm-based camping, naturist experiences, and luxury glamping.

The company, which marked its five millionth booking in 2024, anticipates continued growth in camping’s popularity as travelers seek deeper connections with nature. “This year’s record bookings on Pitchup.com show continued interest in outdoor immersion, which offers a meaningful way for people to find balance and forge deeper connections with themselves and their surroundings,” Dan Yates, founder and managing director of Pitchup.com, said.

One notable trend highlighted in the report is the increasing appeal of farm-to-tent experiences. This year, Pitchup.com recorded over 443,000 searches for farm campgrounds, signaling a growing interest in agritourism. These locations provide opportunities for travelers to engage with sustainable farming practices while enjoying locally sourced food and drinks.

Naturist camping has also seen significant growth, with a 742% increase in searches for naturist-friendly sites compared to 2023. Destinations like Broadland Sun Association Naturist Campsite in England and Wild Horse Mountain View Campsite in Colorado offer settings for travelers to embrace body positivity and community while enjoying the outdoors.

The holiday season is also witnessing a transformation, with more travelers opting for intimate celebrations in nature. Pitchup.com reported a 16% increase in Christmas bookings, particularly among couples seeking quieter, more meaningful holiday experiences. Popular destinations include in U.K., Spain, and Portugal, where guests enjoy fireside toasts and stargazing.

The nostalgia of road trips is also making a comeback, with a 30% year-over-year increase in bookings for static caravans. Sites like Vernal RV Resort in Utah and Let’s Glamp Retro in Wales cater to travelers seeking to relive simpler times while exploring scenic landscapes.

Luxury glamping continues to gain momentum, driven by increased demand for outdoor stays with high-end amenities. Pitchup.com added Dawn Ranch in California to its portfolio in 2024, offering upscale accommodations that blend nature with luxury. Searches using the “luxury” filter rose by 209% this September compared to the previous year.

Climate concerns are also influencing travel preferences, with more people seeking cooler destinations. The use of Pitchup.com’s “bush” filter exceeded 200,000 times in 2024, reflecting interest in shaded and forested areas. Campgrounds like Thunder Mountain Camp in Arkansas and West Beach Resort in Washington offer escapes from rising temperatures through activities like shaded hiking and cold-water plunges.

Additionally, international travel is on the rise, with a 20% increase in bookings outside the U.S. in 2024. Portugal, Hungary, and Montenegro are among the fastest-growing destinations, driven by their appeal as unique alternatives to traditional tourist hotspots.
