Proposed Glamping and Wedding Venue Aims to Boost Rural Tourism Near Horncastle

A proposed development near Horncastle aims to introduce a new wedding venue alongside a glamping site, offering potential economic and tourism benefits to the surrounding rural community.

The application, submitted by Mrs. J Caswell to East Lindsey District Council, seeks permission to convert a barn on Woodbine Field in Old Woodhall into a multi-purpose venue while also creating a lake and installing six glamping huts.

According to a report by Lincolnshire Live, if approved, the project would cater to both wedding guests and visitors seeking upscale rural accommodations.

The plans detail a function space within the barn, featuring an office/bridal suite, kitchen, storage areas, and an open veranda. A gravel parking area with a capacity for 51 vehicles is also included in the proposal.

Glamping has seen significant growth as an alternative accommodation model within the outdoor hospitality sector, offering a balance between luxury and nature-driven experiences.

The proposed site, with its lakeside positioning, could provide an attractive option for both event-goers and leisure travelers, contributing to the increasing demand for premium outdoor accommodations.

“The proposals’ primary purpose is to provide the area with a wedding venue that can also be used for local community events and visitor attraction,” the design and access statement from Neil Dowlman Architecture states.

It further emphasizes the project’s aim to “deliver high-quality and functional design which will provide the community with a space to gather, celebrate, and host local events.”

The three glamping huts positioned along the southwestern perimeter of the lake and three on the northeastern side would offer a secluded and picturesque setting.

By incorporating glamping into the venue’s business model, the development aligns with broader industry trends where hospitality businesses diversify their offerings to attract a wider customer base.

This approach not only increases revenue potential but also extends the venue’s utility beyond seasonal wedding bookings.

“The development will also provide a unique wedding venue for local Lincolnshire couples. Therefore, bringing tourism to Old Woodhall and the surrounding area,” the statement adds.

If successful, the project could present an opportunity for local businesses, including hospitality suppliers and service providers, to engage with an expanded visitor market.

As rural and destination weddings continue to gain popularity, venues that integrate outdoor accommodations can differentiate themselves in a competitive market.

Industry professionals seeking to expand their glamping or event-focused operations may find this model to be a viable template for increasing guest engagement and revenue streams.
