North Yorkshire Council has approved plans to expand the Orchard Farm Holiday Village in Stonegate, Hunmanby, near Filey.
The development, proposed by Rolson Larkham, includes the addition of 13 static caravans and new touring caravan pitches on approximately 0.85 hectares of land.
The designated area, currently used for around 25 tent pitches, will remain as a grassed space without marked boundaries for individual pitches.
Planning officers noted the proposal’s scale is suitable, given the existing development on the site and the well-landscaped boundaries that shield the area from external views.
They emphasized that the expansion does not extend beyond the approved site’s boundary and aligns with the character of the surrounding countryside.
Hunmanby Parish Council, the Highway Authority, and the council’s tourism team raised no objections to the proposal, and no public comments were submitted. The site is bordered by residential developments to the west and south and a sewage treatment plant to the east.
Additional elements of the plan include the planting of trees around an existing pond and the installation of a two-meter-high hedge along the western boundary adjacent to Lennox Close. These measures aim to enhance the site’s landscape and provide a buffer for nearby residential areas.
In their report, planning officers concluded that the development would minimally impact local traffic and residential amenities, with landscaping efforts mitigating potential disruptions.
They further stated that the expansion would support the area’s tourism economy, contributing to sustainable growth.
According to a report by the Yorkshire Post, the council approved the proposal with conditions on Friday, January 3.
