New £60 Million Green Ridge Resort Approved Near Cornwall’s Newquay Beach

A £60 million holiday resort, Green Ridge, has been approved for development near Newquay in Cornwall, a region renowned for its beaches. The new resort will feature 400 lodges spread across 70 acres and is anticipated to bring significant economic and employment benefits to the area.

Plans for the resort include various amenities such as a swimming pool, an indoor spa with guest treatments, a waterpark, a splash park, playgrounds, and an activity center.

Additional features will include outdoor events, walking trails, lakes, restaurants, shops, and a bar and café. The project is expected to generate £26 million annually and create approximately 200 jobs.

According to a report by The Sun, the proposed site is located near the village of Colan, within easy reach of Newquay Beach.

While some local opposition to the development was noted, the project has gained support from local officials.

Councillor Rob Nolan highlighted the evolving nature of Cornwall’s tourism sector, stating, “Tourism is changing in Cornwall and big hotels are closing down.” He acknowledged local concerns but emphasized the need for the project.

Councillor Phil Seeva also expressed support, saying, “I have no doubt that people coming on holiday to a premium campsite will spend money in Cornwall.”

Newquay, a popular tourist destination, was recently named the best UK holiday hotspot by Go Outdoors, with attractions such as Fistral Beach often regarded as one of the top beaches in Europe. The area also hosts events like the annual Boardmasters Festival, drawing visitors from across the UK.

Cornwall has seen increasing interest as a travel destination, with some referring to it as “the Ibiza of the UK” due to its vibrant atmosphere and coastal appeal. Fistral Beach, with its expansive sandy shoreline, continues to be a favorite among visitors and locals alike.

In addition to the Green Ridge resort, Cornwall’s holiday park sector continues to receive recognition for its high-quality offerings. Trevornick Holiday Park, located in Holywell Bay near Newquay, was recently named the best holiday park in the UK at the AA Caravan and Camping Awards 2024.
