A new glamping development is set to take shape in Louth following the approval of grant funding under the 2023-2027 LEADER programme.
The project, known as Glamping at Cornamucklagh, will bring seven luxury glamping lodges to the Omeath to Carlingford Road. The initiative is expected to enhance the region’s appeal as a tourism destination and contribute to local economic growth.
John and Marian King, the project developers, have secured €197,460 in grant aid through the funding programme.
The investment is part of a broader effort to support rural businesses and tourism ventures in Ireland, particularly those that contribute to job creation and economic expansion.
Finbar Gethins, chief officer of Louth Local Community Development Committee, emphasized the significance of the project’s location near the upcoming Narrow Water Bridge.
“This development, which is close to the Narrow Water Bridge, will be a massive boost to this area of North Louth and will attract many visitors,” Gethins said in a report by Louth Live.
The project aligns with the objectives of the LEADER programme, which provides financial support to rural enterprises, community-led initiatives, and sustainable tourism developments.
Ciaran Reid, chief executive of Louth local development, highlighted the economic benefits of the project, stating:
“Job Creation and Economic Development is a theme in the new LEADER programme, and this project will benefit greatly economic development in the area and support the tourism sector.”
Set to open in autumn 2025, Glamping at Cornamucklagh reflects a growing trend in the outdoor hospitality industry, where local businesses leverage government-backed funding to expand accommodation offerings and attract new visitor demographics.
With the rise of experiential travel, developments like this can offer valuable opportunities for glamping operators, campground owners, and tourism entrepreneurs looking to enhance their own properties with unique lodging options.
The LEADER programme continues to be a significant funding source for rural businesses and hospitality providers.
With €180 million allocated for the 2023-2027 period—bringing the total LEADER funding for 2021-2027 to €250 million—operators in the outdoor hospitality sector have a chance to access financial support for new ventures, infrastructure upgrades, and sustainability initiatives.
As interest in glamping and rural tourism grows, industry professionals may find it beneficial to explore funding opportunities that align with their expansion goals.
