Dorset & Devon Holiday Cottages has expanded its accommodation portfolio with the launch of three luxury glamping pods in Uplyme, Dorset, as the company broadens its offering beyond traditional self-catering cottages to address changing travel preferences in the UK domestic tourism market.
The new accommodations are located adjacent to the Trinity Hill Woodland Nature Reserve and approximately 10 minutes from Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast. Designed primarily for couples and short-break travelers, each pod includes a king-size bed, private hot tub, kitchen facilities, central heating, Wi-Fi, a smart TV, and an outdoor decking area.
The expansion comes after what the company described as a successful first year, during which it added 60 properties to its portfolio. By introducing glamping accommodations alongside its existing vacation rentals, the company is diversifying its product mix to appeal to travelers seeking experience-focused stays while maintaining access to traditional self-catering options.
Gemma Matthews, owner of Dorset & Devon Holiday Cottages, told Bridport News: “We’re always looking at ways to evolve our offering and respond to what holidaymakers are looking for.
“Glamping has seen huge growth in popularity over recent years, particularly for luxury stays that offer comfort, privacy and quality facilities.
“The Uplyme glamping pods are a fantastic addition to our portfolio because it gives guests something a little different while still showcasing everything people love about this part of the Jurassic Coast.”
The company said stays begin at £370 for two nights, equivalent to £185 per night or £92.50 per person per night based on double occupancy.
The launch reflects an ongoing trend within the UK outdoor hospitality sector, where operators are expanding beyond conventional accommodations to include premium glamping products. In recent years, demand for shorter domestic vacations has encouraged many campground, holiday park, and vacation rental operators to invest in accommodations that combine outdoor settings with hotel-style amenities.
For outdoor hospitality professionals, the expansion highlights several market considerations. Premium glamping accommodations typically allow operators to diversify revenue streams, attract guests who may not traditionally camp, and extend appeal to travelers seeking year-round comfort through features such as heating, private bathrooms, and wellness-focused amenities like hot tubs. These investments can also complement existing lodging inventories by offering multiple accommodation types that appeal to different customer segments.
The Uplyme location provides guests with access to Lyme Regis beach, the historic Cobb harbor, coastal walking routes, restaurants, pubs, and independent retailers, while the nearby Trinity Hill Woodland Nature Reserve offers opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Positioning accommodations near established visitor attractions and natural landscapes remains a common strategy for operators seeking to increase occupancy during weekend and shoulder-season travel periods.
The introduction of the glamping pods also reflects broader developments across the UK tourism industry, where experience-led accommodations continue to gain traction alongside traditional cottages, caravans, and holiday parks. As operators evaluate future investments, projects that balance comfort, privacy, and proximity to outdoor attractions may continue to play a role in meeting evolving guest expectations while expanding accommodation portfolios.
