Sherwood Forest Holiday Park Completes Infrastructure Phase Ahead of 22-Unit Glamping Expansion

Enabling and infrastructure works have been completed for the expansion of Sherwood Forest Holiday Park in Nottinghamshire, marking a key step toward the addition of new glamping accommodations at the site.

The project, carried out by Lincolnshire-based contractor Stirlin on behalf of Torksey Caravans, prepares the park for the installation of 22 glamping pods. Located near the River Maun in Nottinghamshire, Sherwood Forest Holiday Park is expected to begin the next phase of development following the completion of the infrastructure package, with the first guests anticipated after the pods are installed.

As the main contractor, Stirlin completed a range of site preparation and infrastructure improvements designed to support the expansion.

The scope of work included groundworks, drainage and utility service connections, construction of a new access road, installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, development of an attenuation pond for surface water management, and associated landscaping.

The project was delivered in partnership with Brook Civils and Ulyett Landscapes, according to TheBusinessDesk.

Caroline Parkes, director at Torksey Caravans, said: “The completion of these works marks a major milestone for the park. We are now looking forward to the installation of the 22 contemporary glamping pods and welcoming our first guests very soon.”

James Kirby, owner of Stirlin, said: “This project demonstrates Stirlin’s expertise in delivering complex infrastructure and enabling works, creating the foundations for exciting future developments.”

While no opening date for the new accommodations has been announced, the completion of enabling works represents an important milestone in the expansion timeline, allowing installation of the glamping pods to move forward.

For outdoor hospitality operators, the project reflects the growing emphasis on investing in supporting infrastructure before adding new accommodations. Site preparation, utility capacity, drainage systems, road access, and environmental management features such as attenuation ponds can play a significant role in ensuring developments meet operational requirements and local planning standards.

The inclusion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure also highlights how operators are incorporating amenities that align with evolving guest expectations and the increasing adoption of electric vehicles.

The phased approach taken at Sherwood Forest Holiday Park illustrates how infrastructure improvements can be completed ahead of accommodation installation, helping reduce construction challenges during later stages of development while positioning parks for future operational needs.

As more campground, RV park, and glamping operators evaluate expansion opportunities, projects such as this demonstrate the importance of coordinating contractors, civil engineering specialists, and landscape partners early in the development process to establish the necessary foundations before guest accommodations are introduced.
