Key Strategies for Campsite Owners to Capitalize on Bank Holiday Bookings

As the May bank holidays approach, Pitchup.com forecasts a significant surge in camping interest across the UK.

With an impressive 100,000 nights already reserved for the Early May Bank Holiday and 155,000 for the Spring Bank Holiday, campsite owners have a prime opportunity to capitalize on the increased demand. Central England and the South West are currently the most popular destinations, according to booking trends.

These areas are followed closely by North Yorkshire, Cornwall, and Cumbria. Notably, Rutland, known for its motto “much in little,” has seen a dramatic 171% increase in bookings compared to the previous year, highlighting a growing interest in less traditional locales, according to a press release.

Brodie Farrow, marketing manager at Pitchup.com, stresses the importance of an updated online presence. “Ensuring your site’s listing reflects the latest amenities and visual appeal is crucial,” said Farrow.

This advice is timely as enhancements to Pitchup.com’s platform, including new search filters for unique attractions like wild swimming and vineyards, help users find tailored camping experiences.

Photography plays a key role in attracting potential guests, with Farrow offering specific tips for campsite owners. High-quality images that show detailed and diverse aspects of a site can significantly influence a camper’s booking decision.

Photos should focus on clean facilities, highlight accessibility features, and vary in perspective, capturing different times of the day to showcase the site in the best light.

The role of customer reviews and site ratings in influencing potential bookings cannot be underestimated. Pitchup.com will soon distribute certificates to the top-rated sites of the past year, a move that Farrow believes will “reassure guests of their choice.” Displaying these accolades in visible areas of a site can enhance credibility and attract more visitors.

With a booking frequency as high as one every 2.7 seconds during peak times last August, the demand for quality camping experiences is evident. Campsite owners are encouraged to promptly update their listings to reflect current offerings and maximize visibility before the rush of holiday bookings begins.

As the camping season picks up, those who quickly adapt to market demands and optimize their online presence are likely to see the greatest benefits. This proactive approach is essential for campsite owners looking to thrive during the busy bank holiday periods and beyond.
