Himley Hall Glamping Secures Permission to Host Events, Serve Alcohol Amid Local Concerns

Himley Hall Glamping, situated in the grounds of Himley Hall in south Staffordshire, secured permission to host a variety of events and serve alcohol until midnight.

The South Staffordshire Council’s licensing sub-committee granted the venue a premises license, allowing it to serve alcohol from 11:00 to 00:00. The approval extends to hosting music events, film screenings, and dance performances, with live music permitted until 23:00 and recorded music allowed in the bar area thereafter.

However, the approval process faced some challenges. The chair of Himley Parish Council and 10 local residents voiced their concerns, citing potential issues such as noise pollution, traffic congestion, and public nuisance.

One resident expressed worry about the impact on their retirement, stating, “When events are held at Himley Hall I can hear the music from my home and while this is acceptable on a few occasions, the thought of all-day events, especially the music, would make my retirement totally unbearable.”

Despite these objections, the licensing sub-committee found in favor of the glamping site. The decision permits up to four events per month involving licensable activities between April 1 and October 31 each year, with a reduction to two events per month during the off-season.

To mitigate community concerns, the council imposed several conditions on the license. Drinks must be served in plastic containers, except during wedding receptions, and CCTV installation is required in the bar area. These measures aim to enhance safety and reduce potential disturbances to the surrounding area.

Patrick Sampson, the glamping site operator, outlined mitigation strategies during the licensing hearing.

He assured the panel that events would be limited to 150 guests maximum, with most attracting no more than 100 attendees.

To address parking concerns, Sampson revealed arrangements for an overflow car park at Himley Hall and plans to bring in additional toilets for larger events.

The decision to diversify comes after the glamping site successfully hosted four weddings earlier in the year without any complaints.
