North Yorkshire Council has given the green light to plans for a new swimming pool at Bowland Fell Holiday Park in Tosside. The approval marks a significant upgrade for the park. The new facility will replace the existing pool and more than double in size, reaching 441 square meters.
Bowland Fell Holiday Park, home to 350 caravans, is operated by Park Holidays UK Ltd, one of the largest holiday caravan park operators in the United Kingdom.
According to an article published by the Craven Herald, the new facility will feature a main swimming pool measuring 12.8m by 5.6m and a toddler pool of 5.6m by 3.8m. It will offer more spacious facilities, improved family changing areas, and enhanced toilet facilities.
Currently, the site employs 22 full-time and 16 part-time staff. The new pool is expected to create additional job opportunities, aligning with broader industry trends. This employment growth is consistent with observations of significant job creation in holiday parks due to increased investments.
The new pool building will feature natural Yorkshire stone and wood cladding, showcasing a commitment to local aesthetics and sustainability.
The site will also be enhanced further as part of the development. Following the removal of two redundant LPG tanks, a new entrance gate for cars will be constructed to the north of the site.
Additionally, eleven new parking spaces will be created, including two accessible bays and two EV charging points.
Park Holidays explained that the proposed replacement swimming pool will boost the local tourism sector. “The swimming pool will provide guests and residents of the holiday park with a much improved indoor leisure facility to be enjoyed when good weather cannot be guaranteed,” Park Holidays indicated.
The company anticipates the new facility will extend the traditional holiday season, providing year-round attractions.
“It will be a highly valued amenity within the Holiday Park and will contribute to the attraction of visitors outside of the conventional peak holiday season,” Park Holidays explained.
The development at Bowland Fell Holiday Park underscores a growing trend in the UK holiday park industry towards offering high-quality, year-round facilities.
Similar upgrades, such as the new luxury spa pool at Rye Harbour Holiday Park, further illustrate the industry’s commitment to enhancing visitor experiences and bolstering local economies through improved amenities and extended seasons.
