Kuganha, a luxury wellness safari in South Africa’s Western Cape, is combining private tented accommodations, wellness facilities and Big Five wildlife experiences as it develops a hospitality model centered on in-suite wellness.
Located on a 10,000-hectare rewilded Big Five conservancy less than two and a half hours from Cape Town, the property has 10 private tented suites. Each suite measures at least 320 square meters and is designed to give guests access to a range of wellness facilities without requiring a separate visit to a spa.
The suites include private saunas, steam rooms, cold plunge pools, salt halotherapy chambers and flotation therapy pools.
Additional facilities include twin massage beds, relaxation lounges, outdoor showers, double soaking baths, private plunge pools and Jacuzzis. These amenities are arranged around large private decks, allowing guests to use the facilities while also remaining connected to the surrounding landscape.
Kuganha introduces guests to the wellness facilities through a guided ritual on arrival, which includes a cold plunge followed by sauna, salt halotherapy and a steam shower. Guests can subsequently use the flotation facilities and other amenities according to their own schedules.
According to Getaway, the property also offers a range of treatments, including relaxation and deep-tissue massages, Rungu massage, salt stone massage, facial and scalp treatments, body scrubs, wraps, manicures and pedicures. Signature offerings include the Skin Hydrating Journey, Body Recovery Journey and Restoration Journey. The latter combines Rungu massage movements with a sensory-deprivation flotation experience.
For hospitality operators, the concept illustrates one approach to integrating wellness directly into accommodation rather than relying on a centralized spa facility. By putting multiple wellness amenities within each unit, the property positions the accommodation itself as part of the guest experience.
Kuganha’s model also places emphasis on privacy, potentially allowing guests to use wellness amenities without sharing facilities with other visitors.
Wellness facilities are included as part of Kuganha’s fully inclusive offering, with guests receiving unlimited use of the in-suite amenities during their stay. Treatments and rituals can be arranged around guests’ schedules, subject to availability.
The wellness concept is also tied to the property’s conservation approach. Kuganha’s land has undergone rewilding work that includes rehabilitation of indigenous vegetation and the reintroduction of wildlife. Guests can participate in safari experiences within the conservancy, providing a combination of wellness-focused accommodation and access to a restored natural environment.
Food is another component of the offering, with the property emphasizing fresh, organic, sustainable and locally sourced produce. Meals can be served privately within the suites or at the restaurant overlooking an infinity pool and waterhole.
The property’s positioning received additional attention in 2026 when Robb Report included Kuganha among its 50 Greatest Luxury Hotels in the World for the year. The recognition adds to the visibility of the property as it develops its positioning around luxury safari accommodation and wellness.
For outdoor hospitality and glamping operators, Kuganha’s approach highlights how private-unit amenities can be used to differentiate high-end accommodations.
Rather than treating wellness as an add-on service requiring a dedicated building, the property has incorporated multiple facilities into individual suites, making privacy and convenience central components of the guest experience.
