Fira de Barcelona’s International Caravanning Exhibition, in collaboration with the Spanish Association of the Caravanning Industry and Commerce (ASEICAR) and the Gremi d’Empresaris del Caravaning de Catalunya (GREMCAR), has announced the development of a new White Paper on Spain’s caravanning sector, with findings expected to be released by the end of 2026.
The initiative aims to provide an updated analysis of the industry’s economic, social, and environmental impact, as well as its evolution in recent years.
The research will be conducted by the Tornare MarSenses Chair | Septeo | AEDH Foundation of Universidad Europea de Madrid. Organizers said the project will draw on a combination of sector data, academic research, and interviews with businesses, associations, and other stakeholders across the caravanning ecosystem.
The goal is to produce a comprehensive and current assessment of the sector, replacing the last major study conducted in 2007.
According to organizers, the report will examine several key areas, including the growth of caravanning tourism, its economic contribution to destinations, emerging traveler profiles, and ongoing challenges related to sustainability, land use planning, and digitalization.
The study is also expected to strengthen collaboration between academic institutions and industry participants by incorporating perspectives from across the sector.
Josep Antoni Llopart, director of Fira de Barcelona’s International Caravanning Exhibition, said: “Caravanning is experiencing a moment of strong growth and evolution. Initiatives such as this White Paper will allow us to analyze its impact in greater depth, providing knowledge that will help to strengthen its projection in the coming years.”
Mariló Martínez García, dean of the Faculty of Economic, Business and Communication Sciences at Universidad Europea de Madrid, added:
“Tourism is undergoing profound transformations in its forms of mobility, consumption and relationship with destinations. Caravanning is one of the clearest expressions of this change. From the university, we want to contribute with rigorous research that allows us to better understand this phenomenon and support the development of the sector.”
The International Caravanning Show, organized by Fira de Barcelona with support from ASEICAR and GREMCAR, is scheduled to hold its 38th edition from October 16 to 24, 2027, at the Gran Via venue.
The biennial event remains a key platform for industry stakeholders, with its most recent edition featuring 180 exhibitors, more than 700 vehicle models, and over 60,000 visitors.
For business owners in the outdoor hospitality, RV, and caravan sectors, the forthcoming White Paper may serve as a strategic resource for understanding market dynamics in Spain and broader European trends.
Insights into traveler behavior, sustainability expectations, and digital adoption could inform investment decisions, product development, and operational strategies, particularly for companies evaluating expansion or partnerships in European markets.
The report’s emphasis on updated data and cross-sector collaboration may also help operators benchmark performance and identify opportunities in a changing tourism landscape.
