A sustainable wellness retreat featuring seasonal yurts has been approved by the Planning Committee in St Brelade. The project, led by Pedram Padidar and Corrine Davey, will see the creation of nine yurts on Mont de le Rocque.
The development will include seven luxury yurts with ensuite facilities, alongside two additional structures that will serve as a yoga-and-meditation space and a communal kitchen. The field’s poor soil quality, deemed unsuitable for agriculture, is being repurposed for this eco-friendly wellness venture.
The retreat will also operate seasonally, from April to September, ensuring minimal environmental impact while maximizing the location’s natural beauty. The yurts will be placed to remain hidden from the nearby main road.
The couple also plans to incorporate sustainable practices, with allotments and green spaces introduced between the yurts to promote biodiversity and enhance the local ecosystem.
This retreat is an expansion of the couple’s existing business, Jersey Organic Yurts, which has provided yurts for events and weddings for the past 15 years. The idea for the retreat emerged in response to customer demand for overnight accommodations.
“We wanted something that’s a cross between the off-grid living that people are seeking but a little bit more glamorous,” Ms Davey said, as reported by Jersey Evening Post.
Guests will be offered a variety of wellness activities, including yoga classes, meditation sessions, sound healing, and farm-to-table dining experiences. Transportation to and from the retreat will also prioritize sustainability, with guests encouraged to use provided e-bikes, bicycles, or public transportation. The site will have only three parking spaces.
