Further Space Expands Sustainable Glamping Offerings with New Site on Isle of Mull

Further Space, a sustainable glamping company, is set to make a substantial investment in Scotland this year.

The first phase of this expansion involves launching a new site on the picturesque Isle of Mull, scheduled for opening this spring.

The Port Nan Gael location marks the eleventh site for Further Space and its third in Scotland.

The company already operates sites in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and other Scottish locations, such as Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Highlands.

Further Space’s investment in Scotland has already surpassed £500,000, and with additional plans to open sites in Skye, Oban, Darvel, and Fordie, investment figures are expected to exceed £1.5 million by the end of 2023.

The company has established an ambitious 10-year plan, which aims to welcome 2.6 million guests per year across 650 locations within the UK, Europe, and North America.

This innovative start-up strives to offer sustainable luxury glamping experiences for adventurous travelers who appreciate unique spaces and unexpected locations.

The new Port Nan Gael site, situated on the shores of Loch Scridian and at the foot of Ben More, offers guests the opportunity to reconnect with nature and enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife on Mull.

Owned and operated by a local family, Chermaine and Calum Laurie, the site is part of a larger family-run operation that includes an inn next door, managed by Chermaine’s father.

Chermaine commented on the family’s strong connection to the land, expressing their pride in their multi-generational history and eagerness to welcome visitors to the island.

Port Nan Gael provides an ideal off-grid destination where guests can observe otters, dolphins, buzzards, and highland cows, all while engaging in outdoor activities such as swimming, paddleboarding, and canoeing.

The location also accommodates canine companions, making it an excellent choice for family escapes.

The pods at Port Nan Gael feature a clever design, including a sofa area for daytime use and a murphy-style queen-size folding bed for nighttime.

Each pod is equipped with an ensuite shower room, a bunk room, a kitchenette, and Wi-Fi access.

In addition to being within easy reach of a pub and restaurant, guests can enjoy outdoor activities and relaxation on site.

David Maxwell, Further Space co-founder, expressed the company’s eagerness to collaborate with Chermaine and Calum as they prepare to open their third location in Scotland.

By investing in lesser-known areas like Mull, Further Space is committed to boosting local communities and contributing to the growth of the region’s tourism industry.

The development of Port Nan Gael and Further Space’s expansion in Scotland may affect private glamping owners and operators in the area.

While competition may increase, the overall growth in tourism could create additional opportunities for businesses to capitalize on the influx of visitors seeking unique and sustainable accommodation options.
