Mount Sima, a popular destination in Yukon, Canada, is expanding its outdoor offerings with the introduction of glamping facilities. This development is part of the mountain’s strategy to diversify its attractions and cater to the growing demand for luxurious outdoor experiences according to an article by The Yukon Star.
The global glamping market is experiencing significant growth, with projections indicating rapid expansion in the coming years. Mount Sima’s decision to incorporate glamping into its offerings aligns with this trend, positioning the destination to meet the increasing demand for unique and comfortable outdoor experiences.
Sam Oettli, General Manager of Mount Sima, recently unveiled plans for the new glamping project. It’s like glamorous camping in the forest,” Oettli explained, highlighting the unique blend of comfort and nature that glamping provides. The project aims to offer visitors a taste of outdoor luxury amidst the Yukon wilderness.
The glamping facilities at Mount Sima will feature wall tents measuring 8 by 10 feet, providing a cozy retreat for guests. Oettli described these accommodations as “basically like little hotel rooms in the middle of the forest,” emphasizing the comfort and convenience they offer. These wall tents are scheduled to open on August 10 and are already available for booking.
In addition to the wall tents, Mount Sima is also developing a geodesic dome tent, commonly known as a geo dome. This unique structure is currently under construction and is expected to welcome guests by mid-September. The inclusion of a geo dome offers visitors a distinctive and immersive experience.
While the initial focus of the glamping project is on summer stays, there are plans to extend the offering into the winter months. However, Oettli noted, “For now, we’re focusing on summer, just to get it off the ground.” This phased approach allows Mount Sima to refine its glamping experience before expanding to year-round operations.
Mount Sima has already established itself as a versatile destination. Beyond adventure sports, it has become a sought-after wedding venue. Oettli mentioned that numerous weddings have taken place on the mountain, contributing to its bustling summer atmosphere. “A lot of happy people are getting married, which is pretty cool,” he remarked, highlighting the mountain’s appeal as an events destination.
The mountain also hosts a variety of summer activities, including popular mountain biking events. These take place on Wednesday nights and every other Friday night, attracting outdoor enthusiasts from across the region. Mount Sima’s bike park has become a significant draw for visitors, offering a range of trails for various skill levels.
The addition of glamping facilities is expected to further boost Mount Sima’s appeal for both adventure seekers and those looking for a unique wedding or event location. Wedding glamping’s popularity among younger generations aligns with Mount Sima’s new offerings.
As Mount Sima moves forward with its glamping project, it joins a growing number of destinations capitalizing on this trend. With its unique combination of adventure activities, event hosting, and now luxury camping, Mount Sima is positioning itself as a premier destination in the Yukon, offering visitors a blend of excitement, natural beauty, and comfort.
