Ontario Parks to Reduce Maximum Length of Stay at Select Parks

In an effort to provide camping opportunities to more Ontarians, Ontario Parks (Canada) has announced the reduction of maximum length of stay at select parks next year.

According to a release, Ontario Parks aims to offer more Ontarians access to enjoy campground campsites at some of its more popular parks during our busy summer season.

“To help connect more campers with campground sites at their favorite parks, we’re reducing the maximum length of stay at select parks between July 1 and the Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend,” the release indicated.

Ontario Parks said that select parks would reduce the maximum length of stay from 23 nights to seven or 14 nights for campground sites during the busiest camping season. Outside of these dates, the maximum stay will be 23 nights.

Ontario Parks noted that these changes would not impact backcountry camping or roofed accommodations.

Algonquin, Bon Echo, Killbear, Sandbanks, and Pinery Provincial Parks will offer a maximum seven-night stay, while Arrowhead, Awenda, Balsam Lake, Bass Lake, Blue Lake Provincial Parks, and more will be reduced to a maximum 14-night stay.

Aaron, Arrow Lake, Bronte Creek, Caliper Lake, Ferris, Kakabeka Falls Provincial Parks, and others will offer a maximum of 23 nights of stay.

Data reveals that camping at Ontario Parks over the years has grown significantly from 4.3 million reserved campsite nights in 2014 to over 6.6 million reserved campsite nights in 2021.
