Ontario’s (Canada) Arrowhead Provincial Park has officially opened its renowned 1.3km ice skating trail for the 2024 season.
As per a report, the trail, nestled in the picturesque Muskoka forest, began welcoming skaters on January 21, coinciding with the opening of the iconic Rideau Canal Skateway.
The park’s skating trail operates daily, offering two sessions for enthusiasts. The morning session runs from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by an afternoon session from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A scheduled maintenance break occurs between these sessions, ensuring optimal skating conditions.
In addition to the regular daytime hours, Arrowhead Provincial Park introduces a unique nighttime skating experience. “Fire and Ice” nights, a highlight of the park’s winter offerings, are scheduled every Friday and Saturday from 6 pm to 9 pm. These events are subject to weather conditions and have gained popularity for their enchanting atmosphere.
To accommodate the increasing demand and manage park capacity, the park advises visitors to secure their entry by purchasing a vehicle permit in advance. This recommendation is particularly pertinent for day skaters, ensuring a seamless park experience.
“Fire and Ice” nights, known for their quick sell-out status, require reservations. The Ontario Parks website currently shows availability for these special nights, with the booking window opening five days prior to the desired date. The first of these nights are set for February 2nd and 3rd.
The “Fire and Ice” nights offer a mesmerizing skating experience, with the trail illuminated by hundreds of tiki torches. This creates a magical ambiance, attracting visitors from various regions.
