René Arseneault, Member of Parliament for Madawaska Restigouche, announced last Tuesday that the City of Campbellton in New Brunswick will receive a CA$180,000 investment fund through the Tourism Relief Fund (TRF).
The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, according to a report.
The support will allow the city to install a themed playground and a splash pad at the municipal RV park to create a more enjoyable experience for young people and families. The project will also attract more residents and tourists to the Restigouche River waterfront, bringing economic benefits to downtown businesses.
“The tourism landscape has changed drastically in the last two years, as the COVID-19 outbreak had a devastating impact on our tourism industry both in Campbellton and across the region,” said Campbellton Mayor Ian Comeau.
Launched in July 2021, the TRF was created to help organizations and businesses in the tourism sector adapt their operations to meet public health requirements, offer innovative products and services to visitors, and prepare to welcome back travelers. Canada’s regional development agencies are delivering CA$485 million in TRF support.
