Destination BC Seeks Industry Input Through 2026 Tourism Climate and Sustainability Survey

Destination BC has launched the second year of its Tourism Climate Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability Business Survey in collaboration with partners in the BC Tourism Climate Resiliency Initiative, continuing efforts to strengthen climate-ready and sustainable tourism across British Columbia.

The 2026 survey builds on the initiative’s first data collection effort conducted in 2025. The program was introduced as part of the BC Tourism Climate Resiliency Initiative to gather industry-wide insights on sustainability practices and climate preparedness among tourism businesses operating throughout the province.

“Your participation in this 5-10 minute survey is greatly appreciated, and we encourage you to provide your open and honest thoughts,” the announcement states.

More than 550 tourism businesses participated in the inaugural survey in 2025. The responses provided baseline findings on how tourism operators are approaching environmental sustainability and adapting to climate-related risks.

Those results established a starting point for measuring changes and progress over time across the sector.

The second year of the survey is intended to expand that dataset and deepen the understanding of how tourism businesses are responding to environmental and climate challenges.

By collecting comparable information again in 2026, the initiative aims to identify emerging trends and measure progress in climate adaptation and sustainability efforts across the industry.

The continued data collection is expected to help strengthen insights at provincial, regional, and sector levels. Those findings are intended to support industry-wide decision-making related to environmental sustainability and climate resilience in tourism operations.

The survey results will help inform planning and strategies designed to improve climate preparedness within the tourism sector. The initiative focuses on gathering information directly from businesses to better understand operational practices and challenges related to sustainability and climate adaptation.

Tourism businesses that complete the survey will be entered into a draw for a pass to a tourism conference held in British Columbia.
