BCLCA’s Ideas Forum Starts Tomorrow

The British Columbia Lodging and Campground Association (BCLCA) will host the Ideas Forum virtually starting tomorrow (Oct. 19) and continuing until Oct. 21.

Usually, the BCLCA Ideas Forum is a live event. But the forum will be held online this year because of the ongoing COVID issue, according to Joss Penny, chief executive officer of the organization.

The format is similar to an in-person conference. The Ideas Forum will include a variety of speakers who will lead sessions that will cover various topics, trends, and subjects related to the operation of the campground or RV park within British Columbia. Toby O’Rourke, CEO and president of Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA), will be the keynote speaker at the event to talk about the trends KOA has researched in the last few years.

“We are also going to host a session about cancellation policies,” Penny explained. “We will assist owners of parks in learning how to use cancellation policies to reduce cancellations and impact on the bottom line of their parks. We’ve had numerous cancellations due to COVID that we’ve honored as well as in the wake of the wildfires. Many people don’t see cancellations as a part of the contract. The customer doesn’t mind about the fact that they’ve signed the terms of a contract.”

Shane Devenish, the executive director of the Canadian Camping and RV Council (CCRVC), will also attend Walt Judas, the CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of British Columbia, to provide a view of the efforts to recover in Canada.

Other sessions will focus on issues with insurance, the Wi-Fi usage behavior of campers, and others. This conference also offers Vendor Speed Dating, giving attendees a unique method to meet vendors and other networking activities.

“We want park owners to understand that they are not alone,” explained Penny. “Even though this is virtual, you can still reach out and get information on things you’re planning for in your own business.”

Penny stated that park owners from all over North America are invited to the event, not only Canadian park owners.

“If they have ideas and thoughts that they want to share with people, I hope they join us,” the man said.

BCLCA members can attend the conference for just $199 (CAD) members, while non-members can attend at the cost of $299 (CAD).
