Preserving Indigenous Culture
In January 2023, Basecamp Resorts acquired Sundance Lodges following the retirement of the Green family, who founded and ran the property for 30 years. Before opening to the public in 1992, the Green family consulted with Indigenous elders from southern Alberta regarding the use, design, and painting of the tipis.
The Greens had the tipis blessed by local elders, and to this day, the Trading Post features local Indigenous-made crafts and gifts, as well as educational elements sharing the origins and features of a tipi and Indigenous culture.
