Canadian Gov’t Invests Over CA$17M in Tourism-Focused Projects in Alberta

The Government of Canada has announced that it will invest over CA$17.8 million in federal funding for 50 tourism-focused projects across Alberta.

As per a release, the investment is expected to attract more visitors to Alberta destinations and bring economic benefits to communities throughout the province. The funding will support initiatives for communities, attractions, hospitality businesses, museums, and events, creating over 2,800 jobs in the province.

This funding announcement is welcome news for private campground owners and operators in Canada.

The tourism industry is a significant economic driver in Alberta, and public and private campgrounds located near Canada’s breathtaking tourist spots and provincial and national parks play an essential role in attracting visitors to the province. With the additional funding, private campground owners and operators can expect increased visitation to their sites and a boost in business.

Some of the unique projects and experiences receiving PrairiesCan funding include Travel Alberta’s plans to create regional destination development plans, Métis Crossing’s addition of year-round Sky Watching Domes to complement Indigenous programming, TELUS World of Science’s addition of new exhibitions dedicated to human health and the Arctic, the National Music Centre’s hosting of musical productions and interactive exhibitions, and the Alberta Small Brewers Association’s creation of The Alberta Ale Trail, a self-guided tour network.

These projects are funded through PrairiesCan under the Tourism Relief Fund. The government’s investment in growing Alberta’s tourism operators and attractions will allow them to continue sharing the natural beauty, rich culture, and unique experiences that Alberta has to offer to visitors from all parts of the world.

With the additional funding, private campground owners and operators can enhance their facilities and attract more visitors to their sites near these tourist attractions. This, in turn, will contribute to the overall growth of Alberta’s tourism industry and create more job opportunities for the province’s residents.

The investment will not only benefit private campground owners and operators but will also provide economic benefits to communities throughout the province.

“A strong tourism industry creates economic opportunity and jobs in communities throughout Alberta. Our government is investing in growing Alberta’s tourism operators and attractions so they can continue sharing the natural beauty, rich culture, and unique experiences that Alberta has to offer to visitors from all parts of the world,” said The Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister for PrairiesCan.
