Singleton Council has opened a public consultation on the draft “Plan of Management” for Jerrys Plains Recreation Ground.
The draft plan, currently open for public review until October 28, aims to guide the use and management of the 1.7-hectare site, which serves as a hub for camping, community events, and recreational activities.
Jerrys Plains Recreation Ground, located in the Singleton local government area, has long been a destination for both residents and visitors. The site offers a range of amenities, including wheelchair-accessible toilets, parking facilities, playgrounds, and picnic areas with BBQ facilities.
According to a press release, Katie Hardy, Singleton Council’s acting director of infrastructure and planning, emphasized the importance of community input in developing the plan. “A Plan of Management is a legislative requirement for the site to categorize the land and govern its use and management, but most importantly, it’s a reflection of how the community uses the land now, what upgrades or facilities are needed, and how the community wishes to preserve the site into the future,” she said.
The draft document proposes dividing the current park land categorization into three distinct categories: sportsground, general community use, and park. This change aims to better align the management approach with the specific needs of different areas within the recreation ground.
One of Jerry’s Plains Recreation Ground’s features is its camping facilities. The site offers camping spots for short-term visitors, enhancing its appeal as a recreational destination. The recreation ground also plays a vital role in hosting community events, including the popular Jerrys Plains Community Fair and Car Boot Sale.
Hardy highlighted the nature of the draft Plan of Management, stating, “The draft Plan of Management for the Jerrys Plains Recreation Ground recognizes not only the importance of the site for sport, recreation and community connectedness but examines how we can promote even greater use of the site. Exhibiting the draft Jerrys Plains Recreation Ground Plan of Management gives everyone the opportunity to comment on proposals.”
The development of the draft plan incorporated feedback from various sources, including user surveys, community drop-in sessions, and submissions. Following the public feedback period, a report considering all submissions received will be presented at the Council’s ordinary meeting on December 13.
Hardy concluded by encouraging the participation in the feedback process: “I encourage everyone with an interest to look at the draft document and let us know your comments—whether you agree with what’s included in the draft document, have any suggestions for improvements, or a combination of both.”
