Rob Comiskey, director of Sandstone Point Holiday Resort expressed that they have become even more successful than they expected.
This happened just only a few minutes after the Comiskey Group venue won the Tourism Business Excellence Award in the 2021 Moreton Bay Business Excellence & Innovation Awards.
“We put a caravan park in a place they said wouldn’t work,” Comiskey said. “We spent way more than we should have. Even Big 4 said spending $20 million on a caravan park…You guys are insane!”
“We have doubled the size of it and hopefully it keeps growing.”
After spotting it from a helicopter, purchasing the land next to the bridge across Bribie Island took the Comiskey Group ten years.
From the air, the company saw the potential for an attractive, modern, and convenient getaway for guests of all ages.
The dream came true in 2018 when the BIG 4 Sandstone Point Holiday Resort was opened. Three years later, it’s much bigger.
Comiskey claimed that a pump track was in the works as was the pool that has a bar, 18-hole putt, as well as a “massive arcade” installed.
But Comiskey acknowledged that it has been up and down (with COVID) and there have been shutdowns and refunds.
“At one stage we had AU$1.3 million of deposits coming out of our bank account pretty quickly, which does kind of hurt you because you don’t count on that.”
However, it has been very successful in other ways because people have not been able to go out of the state or overseas, Comiskey said.
“It’s one of my favorite businesses we own. To see the enjoyment people get out of it. There’s nothing better than having a great holiday with the family.”
Comiskey stated that The Comiskey Group had spent the year reminiscing and putting in a lot of effort for the coming years. He believes great things are coming for the resort.
