NRMA Parks and Resorts has recently unveiled a network of Chargefox electric vehicle (EV) AC chargers across their holiday parks and resorts in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and South Australia. This initiative marks a pivotal move in accommodating the growing number of electric vehicle users and promoting sustainable tourism practices.
This expansion of EV charging facilities caters to both guests and the public. Bhatt’s personal experience at NRMA Ocean Beach Umina Holiday Resort highlights the convenience and cost-saving benefits of having an onsite EV charger, compared to using nearby fast DC chargers.
More than 20 NRMA holiday parks and resorts now feature these EV chargers, either in front of cabins or in communal areas. This widespread installation ensures that guests who drive electric vehicles have easy access to charging facilities, enhancing their travel experience.
The EV chargers installed by NRMA have a top charge rate of 22kW. However, the actual charging rate for each vehicle will depend on the car’s maximum AC charge rate limit, which typically ranges from 6.6 to 11kW for EVs sold in Australia, according to Electrifying Everything.
Guests planning to use a shared AC EV charger can book their accommodation via the NRMA Parks and Resorts website. For those who prefer a cabin with a dedicated EV charger, bookings are required to be made over the phone, ensuring that specific needs are met.
This initiative by NRMA not only provides convenience to EV owners but also encourages travelers to consider more sustainable modes of transportation. By integrating EV charging facilities into their accommodations, NRMA is playing a crucial role in promoting eco-friendly travel.
The availability of EV chargers at holiday destinations addresses a common concern among EV owners – the anxiety of finding reliable charging stations. NRMA’s network of chargers offers peace of mind to travelers, allowing them to plan their journeys without worrying about their vehicle’s battery life.
NRMA’s commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in this initiative. By aligning with global trends towards greener travel options, NRMA is setting an example in the hospitality industry for integrating sustainability into business practices.
