The Northern Beaches Council in New South Wales, Australia is actively supporting the electric vehicle (EV) adoption by expanding its EV charging network to over 20 locations across the area, as per a report by the Council Magazine.
This initiative aims to cater to the growing demand for EV infrastructure, including chargers at campgrounds, benefiting both local residents and the Australian and global RV industries.
Strategically placed new chargers have been installed at locations such as Winbourne Road in Brookvale, Ocean Street in Narrabeen, and Lagoon Street Carpark at Narrabeen, with more installations, planned.
These locations have been selected to facilitate easy access to charging points for EV users, promoting sustainable travel for local residents and visitors alike.
The State Government is aiming for 52% of new vehicle sales to be electric by 2030, and the Federal Government is aiming for 89%, so we really need to ensure our community has the right infrastructure to support EV uptake,” said Northern Beaches Deputy Mayor Sue Heins on the need for EV infrastructure.
She added that the council is leading by example, continually adding electric vehicles to its fleet and supporting residents who make the switch to electric.
The recent charger installations were carried out by JOLT, bringing the number of JOLT chargers in the area to eight. JOLT’s network is powered by 100% Australian-certified green energy and provides EV drivers with free, fast charging for the first 7kWh daily.
JOLT Chief Executive Doug McNamee mentioned that EV chargers on the Northern Beaches have become some of the most utilized in Australia.
“The JOLT EV chargers in the Northern Beaches are some of our most popular charging locations in Sydney and we have been receiving positive feedback from the local EV owners in the area,” he said.
For the Australian and global RV industries, the expansion of the EV charging network offers a more convenient and eco-friendly option for RV owners looking to travel sustainably. Campgrounds without EV chargers may see increased demand for this infrastructure as EV adoption continues to rise.
The Northern Beaches Council is also participating in the Intellihub EV Streetside Charging Project, which will see at least five EV chargers installed on street-side power poles. These efforts contribute to the council’s goal of reducing vehicle emissions by 30% by 2038, as outlined in the MOVE Northern Beaches Transport Strategy.
Currently, the council’s fleet includes five fully electric, five plug-in hybrid, and 15 hybrid vehicles, with plans to add more fully electric models in 2023.
By expanding its EV charging network, the Northern Beaches Council is not only promoting sustainable transportation for its residents but also encouraging a greener future for the Australian and global RV industries and campgrounds.
