Lake Kepwari Unveils AU$5.8 Million Campground and Picnic Area

Lake Kepwari, a popular tourist destination in the South-West region of Western Australia, has officially unveiled a new campground and picnic area, completing a $5.8 million transformation of the area.

The David Ugle Campground, located on the northern edge of the lake, comprises 32 campsites, bringing the total number of campsites at Lake Kepwari to 53, according to a report by CoastLive.

The campground on the eastern side has been renamed the Mick Murray Campground in recognition of the former Local Member’s contributions to the development and his commitment to the Collie community.

In addition to the new campground, a picnic area has also been unveiled, featuring improved pathway access, barbeque shelters, and toilet facilities.

The area, which was previously an open-cut coal mine site, has been transformed into a water-based recreation hub for activities such as boating, swimming, water-skiing, and camping.

The project is part of the State Government’s AU$24.5 million infrastructure investment program into parks and forests in the Collie region, which also includes a mega mural at Wellington Dam, as well as mountain bike, walk, and drive trails through the Collie River Valley and Ferguson Valley.

Lake Kepwari received more than 51,000 visitors last year, and the new campground and picnic area will be open to the public starting tomorrow.

“It’s exciting to see that the transformation at Lake Kepwari is now complete. These new and improved facilities will be a major drawcard for both locals and tourists. It’s great to be able to recognize David Ugle and Mick Murray on their tireless work for the Collie community and Lake Kepwari’s development,” Environment Minister Reece Whitby said.
