Horsham’s new Nature and Water Play Park, a key feature in the much-anticipated revitalization of the Wimmera riverside in Australia, is set to officially open in just a few days.
For weeks, fences have surrounded the park as contractors put the finishing touches on the project located behind Horsham Riverside Caravan Park.
The park boasts numerous attractions, including a large barbecue area, a gently flowing watercourse, manually operated hand pumps, and systems of adjustable dams and weirs, spray heads, and pop jets designed for children of all ages.
The park also offers several year-round play elements without water flow, such as small boulders for climbing, logs for balancing, stones for jumping along, and sand pits, many of which resemble giant sea creatures.
Designed as an area for recreation and relaxation rather than a grand park with colorful plastic slides and artificial features, the Nature and Water Play Park enables families and friends to socialize while children play.
With a AU$2.45 million price tag, state and federal government grants fully funded the park, aligning with the Horsham Rural City Council’s commitment to preserving the Wimmera River’s natural beauty, as reported by the Horsham Times.
Local mother Kate Polack shares her excitement about the park, “I can’t wait for the hot weather to come so we can try out the water features,” she said. “This will be a much-visited spot for kids, parents – and people of all ages.”
The opening of the park, which marks the second funded stage of the Riverfront Activation Project, is approximately three months behind schedule. Contractors are addressing the last few issues before the official opening scheduled for Tuesday, which will be attended by state and federal politicians.
The park is designed to be free and accessible for all ages and abilities throughout the year. This recreational space provides an excellent opportunity for caravan park owners and operators to enhance the guest experience.
For caravan park owners and operators, the addition of a nature and water play park like the one in Horsham offers a valuable lesson in enhancing the guest experience. By providing a space that encourages recreation, relaxation, and socializing, parks with these nature-based attractions can attract more families and visitors looking for an outdoor-focused vacation.
The emphasis on preserving the natural beauty of the surrounding environment also demonstrates a commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
Owners and operators should consider evaluating their current amenities and explore the possibility of incorporating natural play elements that cater to all age groups, ensuring their parks remain attractive and relevant to an increasingly eco-conscious visitor demographic.
