Explore Affordable Camping in South Australia’s National Parks

Enjoying a weekend camping trip in South Australia’s national parks doesn’t have to be expensive. Several parks offer budget-friendly options for camping for under $100, making it easy to experience the great outdoors without breaking the bank.

Deep Creek National Park, located just 100 km from Adelaide, offers a perfect getaway for nature lovers. For AU$50 for two nights, campers can encounter native wildlife such as kangaroos, echidnas, and a variety of bird species. 

The park features five campgrounds accessible by 2WD vehicles and provides coastal views where migrating whales can be seen from June to October, according to a report by SA Environment.

At Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park, visitors can enjoy camping, fishing, and surfing for AU$50 for two nights. Situated 284 km from Adelaide, this park boasts stunning coastal views and diverse bushwalking trails. Highlights include historic lighthouses, the shipwreck of the Ethel, and the abandoned township of Inneston.

Parra Wirra Conservation Park, located 38.9 km from Adelaide, is ideal for walking, picnicking, and bird watching. The park offers camping for AU$50 for two nights and is home to over 100 bird species. 

Visitors can explore the Barossa Goldfields ruins and spot native animals like kangaroos and emus. The park provides an excellent opportunity to immerse oneself in nature close to the city.

Coorong National Park, a wetland of international importance, is 173.46 km from Adelaide and offers camping for AU$36 for two nights. This park is perfect for bird-watching, boating, kayaking, and fishing. 

The serene landscapes and cultural history make it a unique destination. The park’s scenery was famously featured in the Australian novel and film “Storm Boy,” adding to its appeal.

Onkaparinga River National Park offers excellent hiking and wildlife spotting opportunities. Located just 35 km from Adelaide, the park provides diverse trails leading to cliff-top views and rock pools. 

Camping costs AU$72 for two nights, and visitors can enjoy picnic areas with BBQ facilities. The adjacent Onkaparinga River Recreation Park offers wetlands and boardwalks to explore, enhancing the outdoor experience.

Lastly, Murray River National Park is ideal for those who enjoy water-based activities. This park, located 239.81 km from Adelaide, offers camping for AU$28 for two nights. Visitors can partake in walking, bike riding, canoeing, and bird watching while exploring the park’s extensive wetlands and floodplains.

These budget-friendly camping destinations showcase the natural beauty and diverse recreational opportunities available in South Australia’s national parks.
