The popular beachside campground at Bingil Bay in Australia will soon undergo essential improvement works and a change in management.
As a result, the Cassowary Coast Regional Council announced that the site will be temporarily closed starting May 1, with visitors given ample notice to vacate.
The Bingil Bay campground, located on Alexander Drive, currently accommodates eight unpowered campsites, a shower block, and BBQ amenities.
During the transition period, the Djiru Traditional Owners will take over management of the campground, marking a positive strategic move, according to Mayor Mark Nolan.
The decision to shift management to traditional owners has been welcomed by the community, with many expressing hope that the land will be well-cared for and managed effectively.
Paul Roxby, who runs the Mission Beach Nursery, remarked that the site is incredibly popular among both locals and visitors, and that he looks forward to the upcoming changes.
Council spokespersons confirmed that the maximum length of stay allowed on site is 30 days, and that no permanent residents or visitors exceeding this length are permitted.
All current temporary visitors to the campgrounds have been given notice to vacate and have had to make alternate arrangements.
