Boosting Outdoor Recreation: Lenggong Valley’s Fresh Tourism Drive

In a significant boost to Malaysia’s tourism sector, the launch of the Archaeo & Geopark Valley of Lenggong Tourism Package, officiated by Tourism Malaysia, promises to draw in a growing number of domestic and global visitors. The packages aim to shed light on Lenggong, known as the birthplace of Perak Man, thereby expanding the horizons of Malaysian tourism.

The new initiative was unveiled by Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof, the Senior Director of the Domestic & Event Division at Tourism Malaysia.

Yusof announced the development of 48 distinct tourism packages, a fruitful collaboration with 15 tourism operators spanning the Northern and Central regions. This substantial effort showcases a comprehensive approach towards promoting tourism in the area.

Each package, meticulously curated, brings forward a unique combination of activities. From visits to archaeological sites to adventurous hill climbing,  cave exploration, boat cruises, fishing, and camping. there’s something to cater to every visitor’s taste.

Fishing, boat cruises, and camping are among other pursuits, offering an immersive experience into the heritage and scenic beauty of Lenggong.

Yusof presented a selection of the packages available, ranging from the Lenggong Geopark and Ecotourism Package to the enticing Lenggong “Explore Caves & Eat Durian” Package. Also on offer are the Rusa Grill & Fun Trip @ Lenggong Package, the Scientific Visit Package @ Lenggong, the Lenggong Heritage Tour Package, the Discover Historical & Cultural Geo Lenggong Package, and the Mini Amazon Paddling @ Lenggong Package.

The culmination of these comprehensive packages is the result of a highly collaborative effort. A 4-day, 3-night workshop and product visit took place last year, engaging 26 tourism operators and geopark guides (geo guides).

This collaboration with the Central Zone of the Department of National Heritage, Lenggong District Council, and Tourism Perak paved the way for the unveiling of these comprehensive packages.

Yusof took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of the workshop in exploring the tourism potential of archaeological and geopark sites.

The gathering not only unveiled the promise of these locations but also identified other tourist attractions in the Lenggong Valley, such as Gua Kajang, Gua Teluk Kelawar, Bukit Sapi, Bukit Jawa, Bukit Bunuh, Masjid Raja, Mata Air Telaga Biru, and Lembah Lenggong Archaeology Gallery.

Yusof further expressed the intent behind the tourism packages: not only to showcase the unique features of Lenggong Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but also to promote the preservation of local heritage and culture. The development of these packages signifies a drive towards sustainable tourism, a boon to the local economy.

He also announced the release of the Archaeo & Geopark Valley of Lenggong Tourism Package brochure, now available on the Tourism Malaysia website.

This initiative serves as a vital source of information for private campground owners and operators in the nearby area.

By adapting to these new packages, they can better accommodate tourists, who are keen on immersing themselves in the unique offerings of the Lenggong Valley.

As more tourists are expected to visit the region thanks to these packages, campground owners will likely see an increase in business, further underlining the positive impact of the new initiative on the local economy.

These campground operators also stand to benefit from the renewed interest in local heritage, potentially offering their visitors a more enriching stay.

Moreover, the nature of the various tourism activities proposed, such as hill climbing, cave exploration, boat cruises, fishing, and camping, places a particular spotlight on the value of outdoor and natural experiences.

This focus will no doubt present new opportunities for local campground owners and operators to position their offerings in line with these activities, enhancing their appeal to prospective visitors.
