Glamping and Camping Infrastructure to Expand in Shchuchinsk-Burabay

Kazakhstan has approved a comprehensive development plan for the Shchuchinsk-Burabay resort area, aiming to enhance tourism infrastructure and attract investment between 2025 and 2029.

The initiative, valued at 137.2 billion tenge, includes 118 provisions focused on expanding year-round tourism, improving transport logistics, integrating digital solutions, and strengthening security measures.

Key aspects of the plan involve the creation of new recreational areas, including children’s centers, sports and wellness complexes, and an indoor water park near Lake Katarkol.

Additionally, the region will see the introduction of camping and glamping sites near Lake Zhukey, catering to the growing demand for outdoor and eco-tourism experiences.

Winter sports infrastructure will also be expanded, with ski resorts featuring rental facilities, food services, and souvenir shops.

To support the anticipated growth in visitor numbers, the project outlines the construction of parking structures, visitor centers, and additional food service areas.

The government projects that these enhancements will increase annual tourist numbers from 35,000 to 94,000 and drive employment in the sector from 22,000 to 32,500 jobs.

Private investment in the region is expected to reach 22.7 billion tenge, with tourism’s contribution to the regional economy rising from 1.4% to 3.5%, according to a press release.

For industry stakeholders, the plan presents significant opportunities for investment and business expansion.

The introduction of year-round attractions and diversified accommodations, including glamping sites, signals a strong push toward sustainable and adventure tourism.

Businesses involved in outdoor hospitality, from accommodation providers to activity operators, could benefit from the increased influx of visitors and government-backed infrastructure improvements.

As Kazakhstan aims to solidify its position as a regional tourism hub, the development of Shchuchinsk-Burabay underscores the growing importance of domestic and nature-based tourism.

The expansion of transport and hospitality infrastructure is expected to create new avenues for private sector participation, providing opportunities for businesses looking to establish a presence in an emerging market.
