Zhangzhou Begins Summer Tourism Campaign in China’s Fujian Province

Zhangzhou, a city located in central China’s Fujian Province, has recently unveiled its summer tourism season in Shanghai.

The city is renowned for its intangible cultural heritage gems, which were showcased during the event. Inheritors from the city performed glove puppetry, a national-level intangible cultural heritage, and Zhangzhou paper-cutting in Yangpu District.

In addition to these performances, ten new cultural and tourism routes were released. One of these routes takes tourists on an in-depth trip through the city, connecting various attractions such as the Fujian tulou (earthen houses) Scenic Area, which includes Nanjing County and Hua’an County, Dongshan Island, Zhangpu County, the Emerald Bay resort, Huoshan Island, and Hooray, a resort with a camping site and four amusement parks.

The Fujian tulou, or earthen houses, are a complex of ancient buildings unique to the Hakka people in the mountainous areas. Constructed between the 13th and 20th century, these buildings come in various shapes and sizes, according to the city website.

A tulou can house a whole clan of almost 1,000 people, functioning as a small kingdom or a little village.

Hundreds of these structures are scattered around Fujian’s Nanjing, Hua’an, Pinghe, and Zhao’an counties and Yongding District in Longyan city. Most of them are still well preserved and functioning today. The Fujian tulou was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008.

The summer retreat tour will take people to enjoy the fun of Haxi drifting in Zhao’an County and visit Nanmen Village, Xianglin Pogada, Baicaoyuan (Herb Garden), and Lingtong Mountain. There’s also a tour route for honeymooners that include Banyueshan hot spring, Shuangyu Island, and Baitang Bay.

Zhangzhou’s coastal city is also known for its beautiful seaside scenery. The Coastal Volcano National Geological Park of Zhangzhou in Zhangpu County is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts. The Baitang Bay scenic area is another picturesque location that adds to the city’s charm.

The outdoor recreation and outdoor hospitality industries greatly benefit from the summer tourism season. The variety of activities and attractions offered by Zhangzhou, from cultural heritage performances to scenic tours, provide ample opportunities for these industries to thrive.

The new tourism routes released will likely attract a significant number of tourists, boosting local businesses and contributing to the local economy.

The city’s unique blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty makes it an ideal destination for outdoor recreation. The Fujian tulou, for instance, not only serve as historical landmarks but also as unique accommodation for tourists, contributing to the outdoor hospitality industry.

Similarly, the various scenic spots and outdoor activities, such as Haxi drifting, offer numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Zhangzhou’s summer tourism season offers a wealth of opportunities for both tourists and the local outdoor recreation and hospitality industries. The city’s rich cultural heritage, combined with its natural beauty, makes it an ideal destination for a summer getaway.

Whether it’s exploring the ancient Fujian tulou, drifting in Haxi, or relaxing by the seaside, Zhangzhou offers something for everyone.
