A recent report by the tourism website Qyer has revealed that the majority of Chinese tourists are planning overseas trips within the next year, according to a report by the China Daily.
As China’s COVID-19 response has lifted restrictions on overseas travel, the report found that 75.4% of Chinese travelers are paying attention to outbound tourism content and making plans to travel abroad.
According to the report, 38.5% of Chinese tourists surveyed plan to travel overseas within the next six months, with 12% planning to do so during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday. Over half of those surveyed said they were planning a 10-day overseas trip.
The report also found that Chinese tourists’ top concerns when planning outbound travel were airfare prices and the destinations’ policies towards Chinese tourists.
The report also highlighted that Chinese tourists are most interested in natural scenery, famous destinations, exotic culture, food, and shopping when it comes to overseas travel.
The top 10 overseas destinations for Chinese tourists in 2023 include Thailand, Japan, Spain, France, the United States, Italy, Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
In addition, the report found that most Chinese tourists believe that travel is an essential part of life. In 2022, over half of the Chinese tourists traveled twice within China, and 20% traveled four times.
The most popular domestic destinations in 2022 were Hangzhou, Chengdu, Beijing, Sanya, Chongqing, Shanghai, Lijiang, Suzhou, Macao, and Dali.
The report also found that Chinese tourists prefer to gain inspiration for their travel plans from tourism tips sharing platforms, recommendations from travel influencers, online platforms, and friends, and shooting locations from films, television, and variety shows.
