The Caravan Industry Association of Australia is seeking nominations for four national board positions ahead of its annual general meeting in late November, with submissions due by 11:59 p.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time on Oct. 19.
The election will determine four of the nine board positions, with voting restricted to the 12 member state caravanning associations. The national board provides strategic direction for the Australian caravan and camping industry.
According to the announcement, Donna Cocking, Michael Paidoussis, Brad Slater and Gerard Waldron are required to step down under the board’s rotation requirements. Cocking and Paidoussis are eligible for re-election
Under the association’s constitution, approximately 50% of board positions are subject to re-election each year. Elected directors serve two-year terms and may hold a maximum of three consecutive terms, subject to additional conditions for the chairperson.
The board can include up to nine individuals representing different parts of the industry. Constitutional requirements limit the number of directors associated with the same caravan industry category — parks or trades — to no more than five, as determined when nominations are made.
The category requirements may affect the final election outcome. Under the constitution, a candidate who receives fewer votes than another nominee may still be elected if necessary to meet board composition requirements. A count-back system will be used if votes are tied.
Nominations may be submitted by any individual through the association’s online nomination form. The completed nomination must reach the Caravan Industry Association of Australia by the Oct. 19 deadline. Voting will be conducted through an electronic ballot.
“Nominations that show a clear understanding of the different roles and responsibilities between Caravan Industry Association of Australia and state caravanning associations have historically been well regarded through the voting process,” the announcement adds.
The association also encouraged nominations from people across different cultural and gender backgrounds, as well as younger members of the caravan and camping industry, citing its commitment to diversity on the national board.
The upcoming election will fill the four positions declared vacant for the annual general meeting in late November. The process follows the constitution’s requirements for board rotation, director terms and industry-category representation.
