Dundonald Touring Caravan Park Recognized Again Under AA Quality Standards

Dundonald Touring Caravan Park in Northern Ireland has retained its AA Quality Standards rating of four Gold Stars following a recent inspection, with the assessment recognizing the site’s facilities, housekeeping and overall visitor experience.

The park, located about five miles from Belfast City Centre, provides 22 pitches for caravans and motorhomes and six tent pitches. It operates as a fully serviced site from mid-March through the end of October before switching to an Aire de Service facility from November through mid-March.

The latest AA inspection highlighted the park’s accessibility, including its location on a main bus route connecting visitors with Belfast. Its proximity to Dundonald International Ice Bowl also positions the park as a base for visitors looking to combine an urban trip with nearby recreational activities.

Dundonald International Ice Bowl is within walking distance of the park and offers activities including ice skating, tenpin bowling, Indiana Land soft play, Pirates Adventure Golf, Clip ‘n Climb and Escapade Escape Rooms. The park’s location also provides access to attractions elsewhere in Lisburn and Castlereagh and the wider Northern Ireland area.

The recognition follows a period of upgrades at the site, according to a news release. According to Councillor Sharon Lowry, Chair of the Communities and Wellbeing Committee, improvements during the past year included work on the shower block and kitchen area. The AA inspector also commended housekeeping and cleanliness across both indoor and outdoor areas during the inspection.

“This is, once again, an excellent achievement for Dundonald Touring Caravan Park, which continues to go from strength to strength.

“Considerable upgrades have taken place in the last year, including improvements to the shower block and kitchen area. The inspector’s report commended the level of housekeeping and cleanliness, both indoors and outdoors.

“The AA Quality Standards rating of 4 Gold Stars not only recognise the quality of the facilities, but also the welcoming experience provided to visitors who choose Dundonald as a base to explore the wonderful array of sites and activities available throughout Lisburn and Castlereagh and further afield.

“This prestigious award reflects the hard work, high standards and commitment that go into maintaining and operating the site. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all members of staff involved.”

For campground and caravan park operators, the recognition illustrates how ongoing facility maintenance can contribute to external quality assessments while supporting the guest experience. The park’s seasonal operating model also demonstrates one approach to maintaining a full-service offering during the main touring season while providing a more limited service outside peak months.

The four Gold Stars rating comes as the park continues to serve both short-stay leisure travelers and visitors using it as a base for exploring Belfast and surrounding destinations. Its combination of serviced touring pitches, tent accommodation, transport access and nearby family attractions gives operators an example of how location and facility improvements can work together as part of a site’s positioning.
