Governors Island Glamping Retreat Reopens with Lodging, Dining, and Wellness Programs

Collective Retreats has reopened its seasonal glamping destination on Governors Island for its ninth operating season, offering accommodations, dining, wellness programming, and special event experiences within New York Harbor through the summer and fall.

Located on approximately six acres of Governors Island’s 172-acre car-free parkland, the retreat provides visitors with overnight accommodations that combine outdoor lodging with hotel-style amenities. The property is accessible via ferry from Lower Manhattan and is situated within view of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty.

The retreat features 29 accommodations, including climate-controlled canvas tents, cabins, and glass-walled suites. Lodging options include private bathrooms, furnished outdoor spaces, and waterfront or skyline views, depending on the accommodation selected.

Food and beverage offerings are centered around Three Peaks Lodge, the retreat’s on-site dining venue. The restaurant serves dinner beginning at 5 p.m. and offers a menu that includes light appetizers, seafood dishes, pasta, and meat entrees prepared using wood-fired cooking techniques.

Guests also have access to the Sunset Terrace Bar, which offers cocktails, wine, beer, and harbor views. Happy hour is available daily from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and select evenings feature live music performances. Overnight guests receive a complimentary continental breakfast.

In addition to lodging and dining, Collective Retreats offers a range of recreational and wellness activities. Scheduled programming includes sunrise yoga sessions overlooking the harbor from Thursday through Sunday at 9 a.m. and live music performances on Friday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

According to Secret NYC, guests can also rent bicycles to explore Governors Island’s network of car-free paths, spend time on the Great Lawn, and participate in nightly s’mores gatherings around communal fire pits.

The retreat is also preparing for increased visitor interest during Independence Day weekend in 2026. New York City’s Sail 4th celebration, organized as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary observance, is expected to bring a fleet of tall ships from around the world into New York Harbor. Guests staying at the retreat during the holiday period will have views of harbor activities from Governors Island.

As part of its July 4 programming, the retreat plans to host a barbecue event on July 3 featuring live music and seasonal menu offerings. The holiday weekend is expected to coincide with increased visitation to waterfront destinations throughout New York City.

For outdoor hospitality professionals, the continued operation of Collective Retreats on Governors Island highlights the growing role of premium outdoor accommodations in urban tourism markets.

While glamping properties are often associated with rural or remote destinations, the Governors Island model demonstrates how operators can adapt outdoor lodging concepts to highly populated metropolitan areas by combining unique accommodations, food and beverage offerings, wellness programming, and proximity to major attractions. The property also illustrates how event-driven demand, such as national celebrations and waterfront festivals, can create opportunities for operators to package lodging experiences around destination-specific events.

Collective Retreats Governors Island is accessible by ferry from the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street in Manhattan. Seasonal weekend ferry service is also available from Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn, while NYC Water Taxi provides an additional transportation option. Upon arrival on Governors Island, guests can walk through the island’s parkland to reach the retreat, with luggage assistance available for overnight visitors.
