The first semester-long RV technician certification program at Littleton Public Schools’ EPIC Campus has concluded with six students earning Level 1 certifications through the RV Technical Institute.
The graduates completed the inaugural RV technician course offered at the district’s EPIC Campus, a career and technical education center designed to provide students with hands-on training in high-demand industries, including aerospace, construction and business.
While EPIC Campus previously hosted a summer training course, the recent program marked the school’s first semester-long RV technician certification initiative.
The certification program was launched last year through a partnership between the RV Technical Institute (RVTI) and Littleton Public Schools.
The initiative aims to expand the pipeline of trained RV service technicians while exposing high school students to skilled trade career opportunities.
“The inclusion of an RV tech training course at EPIC creates new opportunities to grow the number of RV service technicians and strengthen the RV industry,” Justin Rickett, director of industry relations for the RVTI, said in a News and Insights report of RVIA.
The partnership integrates the institute’s technician training curriculum into the EPIC Campus program to address industry demand for skilled workers.
“By incorporating RVTI’s technician training curriculum into Littleton’s EPIC Campus, our partnership is directly addressing the industry’s need for skilled service technicians,” Rickett said. “As the number of techs increases, repairs are completed faster, allowing RVers to get back on the road to their destination quicker.”
He added that the program also introduces more students to careers in the skilled trades and helps prepare the next generation of RV technicians.
According to the institute, the program is intended to align high school education with workforce needs by creating a pathway for students to enter the RV service sector after graduation.
Students in the Level 1 certification course received training in propane, electrical, plumbing, appliance, body, generator and chassis systems.
Participants were required to demonstrate knowledge of those systems as part of the certification process.
Those who complete Level 1 training are expected to possess the skills needed to prepare an RV for customer delivery, including verifying that vehicle components are operating properly before use.
