Cornwall Named Top UK Destination for Motorhome and Campervan Travelers in New Survey

A recent survey of 500 motorhome and campervan owners has identified Cornwall as the most popular holiday destination in the United Kingdom, while a campsite in the county was also named the country’s preferred site among respondents.

The research was conducted by motorhome insurance specialist Safeguard and reflects continued demand for coastal and rural tourism destinations among touring travelers.

According to the survey, 26% of respondents selected Cornwall as their top UK destination for motorhome and campervan travel. The Lake District ranked second with 22% of the vote, followed by Devon at 16%, the Scottish Highlands at 12%, and Dorset at 5%.

The findings also highlighted the popularity of established holiday parks and camping destinations that cater to touring vehicles. Beachside Holiday Park was identified as the UK’s favorite campsite, receiving 13% of responses from survey participants.

Other highly ranked sites included Carlyon Bay Caravan and Camping Park with 7%, Glen Nevis Caravan and Camping Park with 6%, and both Freshwater Beach and Pennine View Caravan Park with 5% each.

According to Out&AboutLive, four of the five campsites identified in the research are members of Premier Parks, a group representing independently owned holiday parks and campgrounds across the UK. The presence of multiple Premier Parks members in the rankings may indicate that travelers continue to prioritize site quality, facilities, and location when choosing destinations for touring vacations.

The survey results also underline the enduring appeal of southwest England for the motorhome and caravan market. Cornwall and Devon together accounted for 42% of the preferred destinations identified in the research, suggesting that coastal tourism remains a significant driver for domestic travel within the sector.

For campground operators and outdoor hospitality businesses, the findings may offer insight into consumer preferences as operators prepare for peak travel periods and evaluate investment in amenities, touring infrastructure, and guest experiences.

Industry professionals may also view the results as evidence of sustained interest in regional travel and staycations, trends that have continued to influence booking behavior in the UK touring and camping market in recent years.

Operators in competitive destinations may increasingly focus on differentiated experiences, upgraded facilities, and partnerships with regional tourism organizations to attract motorhome and campervan travelers.
