Member campsites of the Highland Caravan and Campsites Association (HCCA) convened in Inverness this week for the organisation’s inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM). The meeting, held on January 28, 2026, brought together site owners and managers from across the Highlands to discuss sector priorities and share strategies for sustainable operations.
During the AGM, members reaffirmed the association’s mission to promote responsible tourism, support rural economies, and ensure consistent regulation across the region.
Discussions highlighted the role of independent caravan and camping parks in sustaining local employment, supporting businesses, and providing visitors with low-impact, nature-based experiences. According to the Ross-shire Journal, attendees also explored collaborative approaches to environmental stewardship, community engagement, and long-term sector resilience.
A spokesperson for the HCCA said: “The AGM brought our member campsites together with a shared sense of pride and purpose. These are businesses that care deeply about their communities and the environment. Their commitment to sustainable tourism is at the heart of what makes the Highlands such a special place to live, work, and visit.”
The AGM included sessions on regulatory updates affecting campsite operations, strategies for enhancing visitor experiences, and initiatives to improve energy efficiency and waste management. For business owners, these discussions provided insights into adapting to evolving visitor expectations while maintaining operational sustainability.
Looking ahead, the HCCA plans to continue working with its members, local communities, and sector partners to strengthen responsible tourism practices.
Independent campsites are positioned as key contributors to the Highlands’ visitor economy, and the association emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing, collaborative planning, and engagement with local authorities to ensure ongoing sector growth.
The first AGM represents a milestone for the HCCA, reflecting a coordinated effort among independent operators to address challenges and opportunities in the outdoor hospitality sector. Future meetings will aim to track progress on sustainability initiatives and share best practices among members.
