Scott County Fiscal Court Conducts First Reading of RV Park Ordinance

In a significant move, the Scott County Fiscal Court (Kentucky) recently conducted its first reading of an ordinance aimed at regulating RV parks, a report from News-Graphic revealed.

This pivotal step was taken during their meeting. The ordinance had previously been set aside at an earlier meeting to refine and clarify its language. After thorough deliberation, it was approved for its first reading, with Magistrate Chad Wallace being the sole dissenting voice.

Central to this ordinance is the provision that allows RV parks to employ a private sewer system. However, this is contingent upon meeting specific criteria. These include obtaining state approval, securing licensing for an individual operator, and ensuring regular inspections are conducted. The ordinance is stringent in its approach to public health and safety. If a private sanitary system fails to adhere to the established guidelines, the ordinance mandates the immediate closure of the associated campground.

A notable stakeholder in this discussion is the Kentucky Bluegrass Experience Resort. They have recently acquired land with the intent to establish an RV park that spans Southwestern Scott County and Northern Woodford County.

Representatives from the resort were present at the court’s last meeting. They proposed the implementation of a distinct private sewer system, a move driven by the city council’s decision to deny them a connection to the Midway municipal system.

Beyond the immediate implications of the ordinance, Scott County, particularly Georgetown, is a beacon for tourists.

The Georgetown / Scott County Tourism Commission highlights the region’s picturesque landscapes, from country roads and horse farms adorned with beautiful stone fences to weathered barns and scenic trails. These natural wonders, complemented by a rushing creek, craft an idyllic setting for outdoor enthusiasts.

Georgetown itself is a hub of activity. Whether it’s the thrill of petting a thoroughbred champion, the roar of a new engine, or the charm of a Victorian-era downtown, the city offers a diverse array of experiences. Visitors can indulge in a myriad of activities, from catching live shows to exploring locally-owned shops, restaurants, craft breweries, and even a bourbon distillery.

For those keen on immersing themselves in the region’s natural beauty, there are campgrounds and RV parks, including the renowned Kentucky Horse Park Campground and Whispering Hills RV Park. These establishments provide tourists with a unique opportunity to experience the region’s charm up close.

As discussions around the RV Park Ordinance continue, it’s evident that the decisions made will shape the future of tourism and business in Scott County. Balancing regulation with the interests of local businesses and the broader community will be pivotal in ensuring the region’s continued growth and appeal.
