Indigenous Tourism Ontario, Camping In Ontario Ties Up to Promote Sustainable Camping and Honor Indigenous Cultures

Indigenous Tourism Ontario (ITO) and Camping In Ontario (CIO) have taken a significant step towards promoting sustainable camping and honoring Indigenous cultures by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last month in Alliston, Ontario.

As per a report, the MOU solidifies the partnership between ITO and CIO, demonstrating their joint commitment to education, land stewardship, and collaboration in alignment with shared values.

The partnership between ITO and CIO represents a dedication to sustainability and inclusivity, focusing on protecting and celebrating the natural beauty of the land in Ontario.

The organizations aim to create opportunities that honor Indigenous cultures while showcasing the wonders of camping in the region. The MOU reflects their mutual goal of working toward a more sustainable future where land preservation and collaboration are intertwined.

Sherry Mayer, vice-president of Operations of Indigenous Tourism Ontario, expressed the significance of carving partnerships with First Nations communities in Ontario and supporting the connections to promote diversity in the camping sector.

According to Mayer, this collaboration not only strengthens opportunities for diversity but also recognizes the importance of Indigenous prosperity in the industry.

“ITO welcomes the opportunity to work alongside Camping in Ontario as a conduit for this work,” Mayer added.

Ellie Abucay-Giammattolo, chair of Camping In Ontario/OPCA, shared her excitement about formalizing the partnership with Indigenous Tourism Ontario. She emphasized the commitment to collaboration and the recognition of the crucial role that Indigenous Tourism Ontario can play in enhancing the camping experience for visitors and promoting responsible and sustainable tourism practices.
