RV Slide-Out Systems: Which one is best to use for your RV?

Josh the RV Nerd at Bish’s RV is here to provide RVers with more information about the different types of RV slide systems, comparing each from its pros, cons, and best fit for each RV.

Nearly every modern RV comes with an area for slide-outs. There is a variety of slide-out systems for RVs. They are hand crank, which is a screw type, mechanisms cables, hydraulic systems, cable systems, and electric motor-operated systems. Every manufacturer provides a way to remove the room with a hand when there is a battery failure.

A motor that is electric draws significant current and requires the battery to be fully charged to function. Connecting it to shore power can help to supply the necessary current and voltage and also prevent overloading the system. The motor that slides out is typically controlled through a circuit board and relay. A fuse is found in the circuit board or in the power line that powers the motor that slides out.
