Ember RV, renowned for its innovative campers, has unveiled a game-changing latest innovation which is a rooftop tent system. The rooftop tent system is poised to significantly expand sleeping capacity in small campers.
The introduction of this feature could potentially enable the configuration of separate sleeping areas just in the bunk area of Ember’s compact trailers. This system, in addition to the true queen bed up front and convertible sofas and dinettes in some models, provides remarkable flexibility in sleeping arrangements.
Despite its game-changing capabilities, Ember’s new feature also comes with its potential drawbacks. These considerations include access to the rooftop tent, weight capacity, and possible challenges in its operation, which are important factors in the decision-making process for potential customers.
To access the rooftop tent, users would climb the bunks, effectively using them as stepping stones. The tent is designed to accommodate one adult or a couple of small kids comfortably, with a weight capacity of 300 pounds minimum. Ember RV is in communication with Lippert, the supplier of the hard shell rooftop tent system, to potentially increase the weight capacity to 600 pounds.
The rooftop tent system is designed to maximize functionality while maintaining safety. It features an LED motion light that also functions as a flashlight and a set of USB plugs for device charging. The tent system also includes a bar similar to those used in vehicle hoods for added safety, preventing the rooftop tent from closing unexpectedly.
Ember RV’s rooftop tent system also boasts exceptional versatility in terms of its physical installation. Users can zip down all of the tent’s panels to achieve excellent views and airflow, or keep them up for privacy and protection from the elements. When closed, the tent system does not protrude excessively beyond the camper’s air conditioner.
The introduction of the rooftop tent system does, however, impact the camper’s overall weight, adding about 180 pounds to the dry weight. To offset this, Ember RV is switching to a new tire system that will more than compensate for the extra weight of the rooftop tent system.
Despite the slight visual inconsistency caused by the rooftop tent system’s placement, Ember RV ensures that the “bracketry” or bracket arrangement aligns with their exterior vaulted roof design. Also, the ladder for accessing the rooftop tent system is designed to slant, providing a safe and secure means of access.
Ember RV’s new rooftop tent system is optional, allowing customers to customize their RVs based on their needs and preferences. This flexibility, combined with Ember RV’s commitment to innovative designs and customer input, continues to set the company apart in the industry.
