As per a report, an ad-hoc committee will be formed to study revisions to the Washburn County (Wisconsin) campground ordinance.
The decision came following a discussion at a county Executive Committee meeting last week after receiving feedback from the public about outdated regulations and seeking a moratorium on any campground conditional-use permits (CUPs) for the time being.
The issue stemmed from the acquisition by North Camp Properties, which received a CUP to construct a 200-plus-site RV park and campground near Spooner and Evergreen lakes.
Many residents have expressed concerns about environmental impacts, noise, road damage, and other problems.
They also maintained that current campground ordinances only have rules for rustic campgrounds, and newer campgrounds, such as RV parks with park model homes, must have different regulations.
After much discussion in the last year between the county and the citizens, including the private group Preserve Washburn County, which was formed to preserve lakes, the county officials agreed that pursuing a revision of chapter 38, division 24 – Campgrounds & Resorts was necessary.
The committee unanimously approved presenting the ad hoc committee recommendation to the full County Board.
