Goose Island Campground in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, officially opened for the 2025 season, marking the beginning of another year for one of the state’s county-run camping destinations.
According to an article published by WXOW on April 16, the campground reported that more than two dozen campers had already checked in by Tuesday morning (April 15).
Open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the campground plans to extend its hours to 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. later in the summer. The extended hours are expected to accommodate higher visitor traffic as warmer weather draws more guests to the region.
The facility is managed by the La Crosse County Facilities Department and is a known destination for both local and out-of-state visitors seeking a mix of natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
“We have the best sunsets this side of the Mississippi River. You can’t get a better sunset,” said Jamie Rupple, Parks Manager for the La Crosse County Facilities Department. “We’re one of the largest county campgrounds in the state of Wisconsin. We have a little bit of everything.”
In addition to camping, Goose Island offers a calendar of family-friendly events throughout the season. Activities typically include guided hikes, educational programs, and seasonal celebrations that appeal to a wide range of age groups.
The campground’s amenities and strategic location along the Mississippi River make it a draw for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and road-trippers alike.
