Wolf River Trips & Campground in New London, Wisconsin, is undergoing a transformation as new ownership seeks to shift the site’s reputation from a party hotspot to a more family-oriented destination.
Known for decades as a popular tubing location along the Little Wolf River, the campground is taking steps to encourage respectful behavior while maintaining the fun that draws thousands of visitors each summer.
The site, which hosts between 4,000 to 5,000 tubers each weekend and offers more than 125 camping sites for both seasonal and weekend guests, is implementing new rules and outreach to encourage visitors to take responsibility for their actions.
Campground manager Lexi Smith said the aim is not to restrict enjoyment, but to create a cleaner and safer environment for all ages.
“This place became known more as a party place, and by all means, everyone can party,” Smith said, as reported by Fox 11 News on June 30. “But we’re trying to keep it in a little more control of the party central.”
Visitors to the river have long described it as a fun getaway with friends. “It’s hot and it’s great and it’s fun,” said Lisa Stucke of Appleton. “It’s an experience that you can’t find in the city.”
Smith said the new owners are actively working to change that image. They’ve added signs across the property with behavioral expectations and taken to social media to emphasize the campground’s family-friendly intentions.
“Garbage belongs in the garbage,” Smith said. “We’re just trying to get people to be more aware of your surroundings and there are children around you.”
“We want to put a friendly reminder out there, the river belongs to everyone. There are people of all ages and backgrounds that utilize the river. Please be sure you are doing your part and respecting others along with respecting the river,” the campground also says in a Facebook post.
The effort includes improved signage, increased communication with guests, and a push for greater personal responsibility.
According to its website, Wolf River Trips & Campground offers a variety of amenities for guests, including a game room and arcade, an on-site store, two playgrounds, volleyball courts with organized leagues, horseshoe pits with league play, and convenient shower houses and laundry facilities to support both weekend visitors and long-term campers.
