A luxury RV and camping resort is set to open in northern Door County later this month, marking the realization of a project that has been in development for over a decade.
Camp Door, located at 10663 County ZZ in Sister Bay, will officially open to the public on Friday, May 23.
The resort’s grand opening celebration will take place two weeks later, starting on Friday, June 6, and will feature a weekend of events, including free camping for the first 30 reservations, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, food trucks, activities for both adults and children, and live music from the Joseph Huber Band on Saturday night.
Camp Door was the vision of Sister Bay resident Patrick Hockers, who began planning the project in 2012 and broke ground in 2021. Hockers passed away in November 2023, just six months before the scheduled opening.
According to his obituary, “In the final chapter of his life, Pat set out on a heartfelt venture with his two sons, Matt and Chris, to create a campground—a space that would embody everything he stood for… fun, laughter, and love.”
”This project became his vision of togetherness, where families and friends could gather to share stories, build memories, and experience the warmth he brought to every environment he was part of.”
According to a report by WBAY, his sons will now operate the campground.
The resort features 77 sites for both RVs and tents, including 54 pull-through sites designed to accommodate RVs up to 60 feet in length.
Amenities include full utility hookups, Wi-Fi, an outdoor stage, a convenience store offering gourmet and organic products, a beer and wine bar, and a community lounge. The site emphasizes family- and pet-friendly accommodations.
Camp Door’s first camping season will run through Sunday, October 26. The resort is a member of the Outdoor Hospitality Industry (OHI) and the Wisconsin Association of Campground Owners (WACO) and has publicly committed to practicing environmental sustainability.
For professionals in the outdoor hospitality industry, Camp Door represents a case study in long-term project development, intergenerational business planning, and aligning amenities with evolving guest expectations.
Its integration of live entertainment, curated retail offerings, and environmental stewardship reflects growing trends in upscale camping experiences.
