Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday Officially Opens in West Virginia

Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday is now officially open under the ownership of the Mylan Park Foundation in West Virginia.

The campground, part of a broader revitalization initiative supported by federal funding, offers year-round lodging and access to the Mylan Park Complex’s extensive sports and event facilities.

Kampgrounds of America (KOA) announced the addition of the Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday to its network of more than 500 campgrounds across the U.S. and Canada. The site, which cost $11 million to build, sits on 37 acres within the 400-acre Mylan Park Complex.

The project was supported by the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization (AMLER) Program, which awarded $3.75 million in initial funding for excavation, utility work, and infrastructure. A second phase secured an additional $1 million to expand cabins and pave interior roads.

Located just a few miles from West Virginia University, the campground provides accommodations for families, sports teams, and RV travelers. It began a phased opening in May with 41 full hookup RV sites and has since expanded to full operations.

“After welcoming our first guests earlier this summer, we’re excited to officially open the Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday at full capacity,” said Frank Witt, general manager of the campground.

“This campground is unlike anything else in the region, offering both top-tier amenities and access to the state of the art facilities at Mylan Park,” Witt added.

The campground now offers 137 full hookup RV sites, including 110 pull-thru and 27 back-in, along with 22 cabins built by Lancaster Cabin, 10 tent sites, and an adaptive playground. A central lodge is set to open later this fall, expanding available amenities.

“The addition of a KOA Holiday campground to Mylan Park is a major milestone in our mission to create spaces that serve both our community and visitors,” said Ron Justice, executive director of Mylan Park.

“This project brings together outdoor recreation, high-quality hospitality, and accessibility in a way that reflects the values of this region,” Justice added.

The campground’s development reflects broader trends in the outdoor hospitality industry. According to KOA’s 2024 Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers spent $61 billion in local economies, averaging $200 per day during trips.

Campers also increasingly seek cultural and regional experiences, with 27% interested in visiting small towns and another 27% drawn to food-related tourism.

The campground is located at 23 Campground Way in Morgantown and will remain open year-round.
